Kaikohe Area GuideKaikohe is a relatively large town for the local area, with more shops, services and sporting facilities than most. It's not a traditional tourist destination, though, competing as it does with the Hokianga to the west and the Bay of Islands to the east.
Having said that, its position makes it attractive for those looking for a central location from which to explore the far north of New Zealand. Which is why the area does boast a small collection of hotels, motels and other accommodation.
In terms of attractions, the hot springs of Ngawha are a short drive to the east and the town itself boasts a reconstructed historical village, with various artefacts and displays from the past.
