Ohope Beach Area Guide
A few minutes' drive from Whakatane, Ohope Beach offers visitors 11km of stunning, uninterrupted clean white sandy beach, great for swimming, surfing and other watersports. The beach offers fantastic views of White Island, New Zealand's most active volcano, which can often be seen trailing white whisps of smoke, and of Whale Island, as well as sweeping views out towards the East Cape.
The beach resort town of Ohope is framed by Ohope Beach on one side, and Ohiwa harbour on the other. This relaxed beach community offers a variety of cafes and restaurants, though those in search of wider shopping options or a movie will find these down the road in Whakatane. Ohope enjoys one of the highest number of sunshine hours in the country.
